Greater Phoenix Leadership Board takes Position on Education Sales Tax Referral Legislation

Greater Phoenix Leadership

Greater Phoenix Leadership’s (GPL) board of directors voted to support legislation offered by Senator Kate Brophy McGee (R-Phoenix), Senator Sylvia Allen (R-Snowflake) and Representative Michelle Udall (R-Mesa) which would refer to the November 2020 general election ballot a measure which would increase the state sales tax rate from .06 cents to a full penny, dedicated to the P-20 education system in Arizona.

The motion passed by the board of directors reads as follows:

To support the referral legislation as a next step solution toward fully funding education needs in Arizona, knowing this is just one component of a more comprehensive plan to be determined.”

GPL’s External Relations Committee had recommended passage of the motion.
