Greater Phoenix Leadership Seeks Director of Racial Equity Advancement Project

Greater Phoenix Leadership (GPL) is accepting a leadership role in addressing racial inequity within Arizona. 

We have spent the last several months designing a Racial Equity Advancement Project for business CEOs to get involved with being a part of further identifying and creating solutions to address systemic racism and make positive change in society. Program components include education, engagement and advocacy opportunities for CEOs and will also apply a data-based racial equity lens across GPL’s broad portfolio of policy and community issues.

GPL is seeking a qualified and dynamic individual to partner with the region’s CEOs and provide leadership for this work.  The Racial Equity Advancement Project will be an initiative of GPL, likely in collaboration and partnership with other business advocacy organizations and leaders within the state; we are all in this together.

Organizational Summary

Greater Phoenix Leadership (GPL), the state’s premiere consortium of CEO business leaders, seeks a senior level professional to design and implement a sustainable program of education, engagement and advocacy related to racial equity advancement.

Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement a comprehensive, data-based and sustainable plan for education, engagement and advocacy on issues of racial equity and systemic racism to enable and prepare the membership to provide community leadership
  • Utilize data and a historical focus on Arizona, ensure a thorough racial equity lens is applied across the GPL portfolio of policy issues at the Standing Committee and Task Force level of member engagement
  • Identify, monitor and engage on issues of racial equity across broader multi-sector communities, including local, regional and statewide jurisdictions, and ensure GPL members are aware of appropriate opportunities to partner, collaborate and provide advocacy
  • Provide leadership to create an annual Racial Equity Action Plan across the GPL portfolio of engagement with metrics and performance measures to track, evaluate and report progress
  • Create collaborations and partnerships to ensure CEO leaders are included and engaged in regional and statewide conversations and activities on racial equity and justice issues
  • Serve as GPL staff liaison for the Social Impact Standing Committee and related Task Forces, and accept other projects and responsibilities as assigned

Knowledge and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a blended knowledge base and history of formal education and work experiences including, but not limited to:

  • A thorough understanding of and ability to articulate clearly the issues of racial equity, systemic racism and the historical role and impacts of such with a focus on the state of Arizona
  • Experience with any combination of professional advocacy, legal, business and/or education sectors that speak to the required duties and responsibilities of the position
  • A high degree of comfort and expertise interacting with CEO level executives, elected and appointed officials in government at all levels as well as NGO leaders and broader community interaction
  • Successful experience building coalitions and leading change among diverse groups of people working toward a common goal
  • Successful experience with program development, policies and practices related to racial equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Demonstrated commitment and easily identified path of career or personal engagement success on issues of racial equity, cultural awareness, diversity and inclusion, social justice
  • Exemplary communication skills in all forms, strategic thinking and ability to provide senior- level quality work product in fast-changing, political and high-profile environment

Preferred qualifications include an advanced degree in law, social justice, or business. Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree and 8-10 years of successful professional growth in the content areas within a business, NGO, government or legal organization.

Compensation and Benefits

GPL offers a market-based competitive compensation and benefits package, commensurate with experience required for high performance of duties.  A fully remote/virtual work environment is currently being utilized for all organizational and employee activity.
